Paying Tribute
The Tribute Series was a dedication to a Canadian for an outstanding achievement in their field. Each year from 2006 through 2020, the Meyer Family donated $5,000 toward a not-for profit foundation, endowment or scholarship as a way of encouraging or honouring the legacies of these Canadians.

Terry Threlfall
Terry was raised in Belcarra, BC and attended Port Moody Senior Secondary where he excelled at sports and pursued his passion for film. In his senior year, he co-produced a short film detailing a Canadian soldier's experience in WWII and submitted it to a national competition for high school students, winning a trip to Europe to join in Holland's Liberation commemoration. That trip kindled a love of history and travel which stayed with him for the rest of his life. Terry's sense of adventure and wonder took him around the globe.
In his travels Terry discovered his other passion, wine. He quickly established himself as one of the most promising young sommeliers in Vancouver. Anxious to expand his horizons, Terry made the move to London where he earned his stripes at numerous world class establishments. Terry was particularly proud of his work as head sommelier and wine buyer at celebrated restaurant Chez Bruce. He came back to Vancouver to open Hawksworth Restaurant, before returning to London, assuming the role of Sommelier and Wine and Spirits buying manager for the renowned Selfridges department store.
During his career, Terry and his teams received numerous awards. He was named Sommelier of the Year in 2012 by the Vancouver International Wine Festival, and Vancouver Magazine. For many years he was a Decanter World Wine Awards Judge and returned annually as Festival Sommelier for the Wine Festival. He was a proud mentor to countless promising wine professionals, and a valued member of the local and international wine community.
“Terry was a major part of the local and international wine world and an important founding board member of CAPS BC. He was always happy to share his expertise and was a respected mentor, inspiration, and friend to many of BC’s best sommeliers.” – The Canadian Association of Professional Sommeliers
BC Hospitality Foundation
The BC Hospitality Foundation raises funds to support those in the hospitality industry facing financial crisis due to a health condition. Each year, many hospitality workers across BC face financial challenges because of a health condition to themselves or a family member and have nowhere else to turn. The BCHF helps them when all other options have been exhausted. The BCHF also offers scholarship programs to foster the development of the next generation of workers and industry leaders. These scholarships are awarded to students enrolled in hospitality, culinary, sommelier, beverage, and other hospitality-related programs in BC.
