This is the third and final release that we sourced from Washington State in the 2024 vintage. Sourced from Upland Vineyard in the Snipes Mountain AVA (American Viticultural Area), a sub-appellation of Yakima Valley which is within the greater sub-appellation of the Columbia Valley. The AVA was established in 2009, it is home to the oldest plantings in the state, and Chardonnay is one of the top three varieties grown here.

An expressive nose driven by aromas of stone fruits, citrus, and vanilla. The palate is focused with a linear progression of flavor that carries vibrant fruit, a touch of honeysuckle and a subtle creaminess on the finish. Aged for 10 months in French oak puncheons (20% new). It is approachable now, or enjoy over the next 2–3 years.

We produced only 500 cases.

    Winemaker Notes

The 2024 vintage was shaped by exceptionally harsh temperatures in January leading to significant bud loss across our vineyards. As a result, our vines produced little to no fruit this vintage, and we did not have a harvest. To continue crafting quality wines, we sourced a small amount of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from three vineyards just over the border in the Columbia Valley AVA (American Viticultural Area) in Washington State. Across sub-appellations in the Columbia Valley, bud break began in late March with a cool Spring and temperatures reaching above average by July. This led to large clusters with small berries, resulting in great quality fruit for winemaking.

    Vineyard Notes

This Chardonnay was sourced from Upland Vineyard in the Snipes Mountain AVA, a sub-appellation of Yakima Valley which is within the greater sub-appellation of the Columbia Valley. Snipes Mountain is in south-central Washington between the towns of Sunnyside and Granger. The AVA was established in 2009, it is home to the oldest plantings in the state, and Chardonnay is one of the top three varieties grown here. The soil is made up of sand and gravel from the ancestral riverbed of the Columbia River with many areas covered by fist and melon sized cobblestones. On top, the soil is loess—windblown deposits of sand, clay, and silt—over sediment from the Missoula Floods which were a series of dramatic cataclysms that occurred over 15,000 years ago.

    Production Notes

The juice was received at our winery on September 20th where it fermented in 100% stainless steel vats. It aged for a further 10-months in French oak puncheons (20% new) before being bottled. The wine went through a 100% natural malolactic fermentation.
